San Francisco Sheriff's Department Emergency Services Unit protects President Barack Obama while in San Francisco
On May 25th the San Francisco Sheriff's Department Emergency Services Unit was given it's most important mission in its history, the protection of the President of the United States.
The ESU was given one of the most important tasks of the day and that was to secure the inner perimeter of the President and his motorcade. The ESU (Emergency Service Unit) along with the SRT (Special Response Team) team was in charge of securing the garage of the Fairmont Hotel where the President was scheduled to go.
The ESU also secured several other streets surrounding the hotel and other areas. Our ESU was out there in force with four squads of our most elite Deputy Sheriffs. The ESU worked in conjunction with several other agencies including the San Francisco Police Department, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service, California Highway Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Coast Guard, and the Fremont Police Department just to name a few.
It is safe to say that this event was a big deal, and every Department that participated sent only their best. I talked with a couple of the ESU Deputies that were there that day and they told me they were so close to the President's motorcade that the President waved to the deputy sheriff's.
It also should be noted that our Department stood out from the rest that day, our guys were 10-8 in every way and conducted themselves with great professionalism and distinction. Thanks a lot guys for a job well done, we all appreciate it.
